Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to speak Spanish?

No. Most classes are taught in English, and we intentionally pair non-Spanish speakers with English-speaking local partners. Speaking Spanish helps, but isn't required.

What dance level is required?

Tours are for dancers with some experience - beginners are welcome if you know the basics (e.g., basic step, left/right turn, Suzy Q). Some editions may be beginner-friendly; others are more intensive. Each tour is adapted to the level of dancers present. No matter your level, expect to be challenged - your instructors and assigned partner will help you adapt and grow. If you're brand new to dance, join one of our "Learn to Dance" tours.

What is included vs. not included?

Included: 10+/20+ hours of training (salsa, bachata, technique, lifts & tricks), assigned local partner, curated Quito tourism, dance day breakfasts & lunches, most in-city transport, housing, partner tips, and film day. See full list here.

Not included: Flights to/from Ecuador, dinners, social drinks, weekend trip meals, souvenirs, travel insurance, small partner gift, optional extras.

What should I bring?

Comfortable dance shoes, good walking shoes, layers (Quito's weather changes frequently), light rain jacket, swimsuit (just in case), reusable water bottle, personal meds, and a small daypack. We'll share all the specifics for your tour in a Pre-Travel PDF before departure.

Is it safe? Can I come solo?

Yes - most guests come solo. We prioritize safety by staying in central areas, using vetted transportation, and include safety conversations in all of our pre-trip meetings and in-country orientation. Housing is in La Carolina neighborhood; rooms are private or shared, and everyone has their own bed.

Do I need a visa?

For US Passport holders, no advance visa is required for typical tourist stays (you receive a 90-day visa on arrival, subject to Ecuador's rules). Always check current entry requirements and passport validity before booking. Your passport must be valid 6 months after your return date.

What if I have questions before traveling?

Once you have paid your deposit, you will be invited to an online community where you will find pre-travel information about Ecuador, your trip, and more. It will also have channels to ask questions and interact with other travelers so you can get to know each other before landing in Ecuador.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

90+ days before tour: Full refund minus $500 deposit (and any non-refundable processing fees)

60-89 days before tour: 50% refund of payments made (deposit non-refundable) or one-time transfer to a future tour if a spot is available ($150 transfer fee)

0-59 days before tour: Non-refundable. We'll try to transfer your spot to a future tour only if a replacement is found for your existing tour; fees may apply.

If EDT cancels a tour: You may choose a full refund (including deposit) or move to a future tour date at no additional cost.

Note: Flights and personal travel costs are not covered by refunds. We strongly recommend getting travel insurance (trip cancellation/interruption, medical, baggage).
